WICHITA, Kan. - The American Red Cross announced the winner of the Annual Battle of the Badges blood drive on Thursday. Wichita Firefighters won the honor this year by just 48 votes against Wichita law enforcement.
The ultimate winners however are the people who receive the donations. 40% of the population can donate, and only 2 - 3% of the population actually do donate, says Lt. Chris Fleming with the Wichita Fire Department. "With each person that donates, thay can help three different people," Flemming added. The Red Cross came very close to reaching this year’s goal of 1,360 blood platelets. They ended the drive with 1,341.
