The outage was reported around 4:15 p.m. and primarily affected residents on the northeast side of Derby and disrupted traffic signals on Woodlawn and Rock Road.
A Westar spokesperson says crews determined that failed underground equipment in a residential area caused the outage and with some re-routing they were able to restore power to all but about 200 customer by 6 p.m.
Crews are continuing to work on repairing the equipment. They are unable to provide an estimate yet of how that will take.
