Doc Howard's Reopens After Fixing Fire Safety Problems

Doc Howard's Lounge in Old Town will reopen Friday night, after passing its annual liquor license renewal process. "It made feel that we need to, obviously, get on top of this thing if we want to continue doing business," said Doc Howard's owner Bryan Shapiro. The business shut down this week because its liquor license expired on Dec. 10. During the inspection, Doc Howard's was found in violation of fire doors in need of repair or replacement and a sprinkler system in need of service. "Every business like Doc Howard's, gets an inspection by the fire department. If there's a life safety issue, such as something that involves a fire alarm system or a sprinkler system, then we take action to make sure that is put back into working order," said Wichita Fire Marshal Brad Crisp. The business passed its inspection on Friday around 10:30 a.m. "They have made those corrections and so their facility is safe as it can be. And it's safe now," said Crisp. "They're allowed to open up for normal business." The owner of the Old Town nightclub said he will maintain equipment and systems meant to keep patrons safe. "I want people to come out to Old Town and have a good time and feel safe, and know that if something does occur, plans are in place to make sure that damage is minimized and people are safe," said Shapiro.
