State Considers Helping SE Kansas Nature Center

GALENA, Kan.  - The state parks department is considering ways to help ensure the future of the Southeast Kansas Nature Center in Galena.
The Joplin Globe reports (http://bit.ly/THHQRG) biologists have said the center is home to up to 30 percent of the state's threatened and endangered species.
Its volunteer director, Linda Phipps, says she and other people who keep the center running are getting older or are no longer able to help.
She told Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism Secretary Robin Jennison during a meeting Wednesday that volunteers are worried about the center's future.
After the meeting, Jennison said he was cautiously optimistic that the state will be able to help, although he didn't specify how.
