WICHITA, Kan. - Two young children are in protective custody while officials investigate why they were found wandering outside, twice in the same day. Authorities said that it happened in the 400 block of south Laura Thursday morning.Investigators said the first time someone called officers to report the boy, 3, and girl, 4, wandering in the neighborhood was around 7:15 a.m. Thursday morning. Police found the children and took them back home. Then around 11:00 a.m., another neighbor spotted the children knocking on the door of a nearby business.
After the second call to police, officers talked to the children's parents, but took them both to the Wichita Children's Home. When contacted by reporters, the father admitted that he works second shift. "They figured out how to unlock the chain." "We took care of that problem," he said.
