Police Chief Discusses Tear Gas in Old Town

WICHITA - Police Chief Norman Williams on Wednesday talked about the recent use of tear gas in Old Town. The incident happened in the 200 block of N. Mosley after Thanksgiving night, in the early morning hours on Friday as the bars were closing.
During the daily police briefing, Chief Williams said there had been multiple disturbances that night, and police used the small canister of tear gas to diffuse the situation, and to disperse the crowd.
Chief Williams said officers are trained for crowd control by using many tools, including tear gas, and that they have the obligation to use those tools to keep people safe; he also said patrons of Old Town need to be accountable for their own actions.
