Through the end of the year, Crime Stoppers of Wichita and Sedgwick County is featuring a cold case murder with an increased reward hoping to generate new leads that result in an arrest.
This week's case concerns the murder of 23-year-old Samuel Springsteen who was discovered by police lying in the street with a bullet wound to the head early in the morning of May 27th of in the 5100 block of East Bayley. The officers were responding to the report of a disturbance with shots fired.
Police Lt. Todd Ojile says the investigation revealed the shooting was related to an earlier dispute between gang member friends of Springsteen and a rival gang.
The pair had gone to Springsteens house after the argument when the rival gang showed up in the front yard. Springsteen went outside with his friends. Ojile says "words were exchanged at that time and shots were fired by the rival gang, striking Mr. Springsteen in the head."
Anyone providing a tip that leads to an arrest in this or any other featured Crime Stoppers case through December 28th receives $2,000, twice the normal reward.
