Officials say 18 year old Wesley C. Stewart was driving west around 5 p.m in the 56-hundred block of east Pawnee at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle on a curve and crossed into oncoming traffic.
Stewart's vehicle struck a pickup truck and spun off the road into a concrete pillar,. Police suspect he was not wearing his seatbelt. The driver's belt was buckled but Stewart was apparently thrown into the back seat.
Stewart was killed in the accident. The 46 year old driver of the pickup truck was not seriously injured.
Police say they don't know why Stewart was speeding, but say he was not racing. The investigation is continuing.
