Jeff Easter Wins Primary Race for Sedwick County Sheriff
WICHITA, Kan. - Sedgwick County Sheriff Candidate Jeff Easter credits a good grassroots campaign for his victory. The Wichita police captain says it was the shooting death of his brother sheriff deputy Kevin Easter 16 years ago that inspired him to run for sheriff.
Easter says a recent jail sex scandal played a role in the campaign against incumbent sheriff Bob Hinshaw. "The jail issues came up in April, and I will deal with that if I do become sheriff," said Easter Tuesday night. A jail deputy was recently arrested and charged with sex crimes against inmates. Easter criticized the way Hinshaw ahndled the investigation.
Easter will face Democrat Jeff Weinman in the general election in November.
