MAIZE, Kan. - Authorities have busted a large marijuana growing operation. Officers were called to a domestic disturbance inside a Maize home Friday morning, but they found dozens of pot plants. Police confiscated between 60 to 80 plants inside the "greenhouse" home.
Matt Jensby, Maize Police Chief, said evidence inside the home suggested some of the plants had been processed. "There's auxiliary lighting apparatus, an auxiliary ventilation apparatus," Jensby said. "It's just a pretty extensive grow operation."
Neighbors said they are shocked that such an operation was happening just down the street from them. "You'd never expect something like that in your own neighborhood with kids running around," said Rick Marts.
The house, like others in the neighborhood, was surrounded by plants and flowers. "Just from looking at the the house from the outside, there's no visible way to tell there was such an extensive operation inside," Jensby said.
Officers arrested a man and a woman in their 20s in connection to the illegal operation. Formal charges are expected to be filed later next week.
