Firefighters Battle Blaze at Drug and Alcohol Treatment Facility
WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita firefighters were called to battle a fire at an east Wichita drug and alcohol treatment facility Sunday afternoon. The fire was reported around 1:15 p.m. at the Atishwin Institute in the 900 block of South Bluffview, near Lincoln and Oliver.
On arrival smoke and flames were visible. The blaze was brought under control in about a half an hour. Officials say the fire was in one of the living quarters at the facility.
911 Dispatch reports the fire has displaced 20 adults. No injuries were reported.
The Atishwin Institute houses patients undergoing inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
The Wichita chapter of the Red Cross found temporary shelter for the 20 adult residents and will assist them in finding other accomodations.
