WICHITA, Kan. A mother and her daughter were both hurt after the two crashed while riding a scooter in south Sedgwick County. The accident happened just after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, in the 1600 block of West 82nd Street south of Haysville.
Sedgwick County Sheriff Sgt. Gary Hargus says the woman, 36, was driving the scooter while her 11-year-old daughter rode on the back. The mother passed over a railroad crossing, lost control of the vehicle on the bumpy wooden surface and crashed.
The woman was critically hurt. Her daughter suffered less serious injuries. Both were taken to a Wichita hospital. Hargus says investigators believe speed may have contributed to the crash. He says anyone who rides a scooter like the one involved in the accident should be familiar with the area and avoid rough surfaces like those found on older railroad crossings.
The victim’s names have not been released. The accident remains under investigation.
