Kansas Teen's Plan Rewards Act of Kindness

LAWRENCE, Kan.  - Students at a Kansas middle school are being rewarded for acts of kindness under a program started by a girl with just one demand - that she remain anonymous.
Nothing doing, Mary Krieger: A neighbor told the Lawrence Journal-World (http://bit.ly/Nc3kSt), and now everyone knows how you gave up a birthday celebration to launch West Middle School's Kindness Counts program.
The program provides awards and $10 gift certificates for teachers to give students they see doing acts of kindness. Mary says the idea was that if students had an incentive to do good, they would.
With money that would have gone for her birthday and some small donations, Mary pulled together $600 and took her idea to principal Myron Melton. He says the rewards have provided a huge morale boost at the school.
