EMPORIA, Kan. - Opening statements were made Tuesday in the trial of a woman accused of placing her newborn child in a dumpster in Emporia. Lyon County prosecutors charged Christina Devine with attempted murder. She is on trial for allegedly leaving her newborn son in a dumpster behind an apartment complex in October of 2010. Defense attorney Paul Dean claims Devine did not know what she was doing and was suffering from a form of post-traumatic stress disorder after the rape she suffered that resulted in her pregnancy. The baby was rescued and is alive and well.
