Wind Blamed For Fatal Motorcycle Accident

VIOLA, Kan.  - A woman was killed when officials say strong winds caused her to crash her motorcycle.  The accident happened just after 6:00 p.m. Monday in southwest Sedgwick County on K-42 about a mile northeast of Viola.
Officials say the 55-year-old woman had just left a gas station and was driving slowly down K-42 when a gust of wind pushed her to drive off the road and into a ditch.  The motorcycle hit a driveway and the woman was ejected 30 feet into the air.  She fell into the ditch on the other side of the driveway.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene to find the woman not breathing. They were able to resuscitate her before taking her to a Wichita hospital. She was transported to the hospital in critical condition. She died sometime later at the hospital.
There were no other vehicles involved in the accident.  The incident is under investigation.  The woman's name has not been released.
