Lightning Strikes Pre-Victorian El Dorado Home

EL DORADO, Kan. -- El Dorado firefighters believe a lightning strike started a fire at an historic home in El Dorado.  It happened in the 300 block of N. Star around 1:30 a.m. Friday.
Homeowner Tommy White said he was asleep when something woke him. He didn't see anything strange so he went back to bed. About an hour later the smoke alarm went off.  "I grabbed my dogs and got out, " White said .
When firefighters arrived, they found smoke and flames in the attic area. El Dorado Fire Captain Rick Whiteside said the fire was tough to extinguish because of the construction of the home. The house was built 120 years ago.
Firefighters call it a total loss, valuing the damage at more than $100,000.
