WICHITA, Kan. - A fire caused extreme damage in a home in Wichita’s Riverside area this morning.
At around 6:15 a.m., Wichita Fire was called out to the blaze in the 800 block of Litchfield, which is 6 blocks west of Central Riverside Park. Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke and flames showing from the front of the house. Residents were already out of the home, none of whom were injured.
After initially battling the fire defensively, fire crews quickly got it under control and determined no other houses had been involved. However, one neighboring house was damaged by the heat. One dog was unaccounted for and did not survive.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Preliminary damage estimates are not yet available, but Chief Newby says it is extensive.
