Wichita and Topeka Named Least Expensive Destinations in the Midwest

Wichita and Topeka, both located the state of Kansas, are the most affordable destinations in the Midwest, according to a survey conducted by ChicagoHotels.org.

The survey compared 30 Midwestern cities based on the cost of lodging during May 2018. May is generally the month when most cities in the Midwestern United States reach their highest average nightly rates.

In Wichita, Kansas's largest city, travelers will spend an average of $87 per night to stay in the cheapest available double room. It has to be noted that only centrally-located hotels rated at least three stars have been considered by the survey. Only a bit pricier is state capital Topeka, where the most affordable room averages $97.

On the other end of the spectrum, the priciest destination in the Midwest is Cincinnati at an average of $186 per night. Rounding out the top three are Madison, Wis. and Ann Arbor, Mich., both with average rates of $184 per night for the cheapest double room.

The following table shows the five most and the five least expensive destinations in the Midwest based on the average rate for their cheapest available double room (3-stars and above) from May 1–31, 2018.
