KDHE suspends Hutchinson day care

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KNSS) – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued an Emergency Order of Suspension to a daycare in Hutchinson.  The licensed daycare is Cherished Memories located at a home on North Monroe in Hutchinson.

The KDHE issued the order after receiving information that the licensee has MSRA, a drug resistant bacterial infection that can be a considerable danger to children. Similar to more common types of staph infections, MRSA generally start as swollen, painful red bumps that might resemble pimples or spider bites. The affected area might be warm to the touch and/or full of pus or other drainage.  Accompanied by a fever these can quickly turn into deep, painful abscesses that require surgical draining. Sometimes the bacteria remain confined to the skin. But they can also burrow deep into the body, causing potentially life-threatening infections in bones, joints, surgical wounds, the bloodstream, heart valves and lungs.
