Woman Charged in Day Care Death

A Wichita woman has been charged in the death of a child at a day care facility. The Sedgwick County district attorney charged 26-year-old Jessica Cummings with involuntary manslaughter in the death of one-year-old Kailee Hundley.

Cummings surrendered to authorities Wednesday; her bond is set at $10,000.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment says Cummings used poor judgment when she placed Kailee in an undersized car seat on March 25 and left her in a bathroom. An autopsy shows Kailee died of asphyxiation.

Cummings faces 30 months-to-11 years in jail if convicted.

In an unrelated incident, the girls' mother, Katie Robertson, is charged with first-degree felony murder in the February death of her two-year-old stepdaughter.
