PONKA CITY, Okla. - A Winfield man is dead following an accident over the weekend in northern Oklahoma. It happened at 8:00 a.m. Saturday on state highway 11 about 4 miles north of Ponca City.According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a westbound Ford F150 crossed the center line into the path of an eastbound semi-truck. The driver of the semi, 58, veered to the right trying to avoid a collision, but was still struck.
The pickup rolled twice and caught fire. The driver, Matthew McLaughlin, 21, of Winfield, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, Justin Smith, 19, was taken to a Ponca City hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the semi-truck suffered minor injuries.
