OBERLIN, Kan. - A large fire in Decatur County has destroyed several homes, farm equipment, and scorched as many as 7 fields. The Oberlin Herald says the fire spread 7 miles west of Oberlin and north of U.S. Highway 36. The fire likely started when an overheated car pulled off into a ditch Tuesday afternoon.
Decatur County Emergency Management says agencies from Nebraska, Colorado, and surrounding counties have gone to assist. Homes in the area were evacuated, but no injuries were been reported.
Fire spread to the Nebraska, Kansas border around 7:00 p.m. Tuesday night, and several fires popped up south of Oberlin, and was reported to be about 90% contained.
