Wichita Man Steals Police Cruiser
A Wichita man is behind bars after commandeering a police cruiser in St. Marys, Kansas, and leading Pottawatomie County Sheriffs deputies and other area law enforcement agencies on an extensive manhunt for several hours on Thursday morning. Pottawatomie County Sheriff Greg Riatt says the suspect, identified as Jeremia Fisher of Wichita, surrendered peacfully after two people saw him walking on a road north of Belvue:
The sheriff says Fisher was stopped by a St. Marys police officer for driving a stolen car at about 1:30 Thursday morning, and somehow was able to bring his handcuffs to his front and get control of the officer's cruiser. The sheriff says Fisher then tried to run down the officer as he fled in the cruiser.
The officer fired several shots, but Fisher escaped and later ditched the police car west of St Marys. |
