On Thursday, the American Venous Forum hosted the national venous disease screening program. The Heartland Vein Center in Wichita, located near Via Christi-St. Joseph hospital, is one of about 200 centers taking part in the forum.
The program aims to detect venous diseases, including venous insufficiency, and risk for blood clots. This is the largest, most comprehensive screening program for venous disease detection ever performed.
Venous disorders affect half of women over the age of 50; they can lead to sudden death, bleeding ulcers, or other chronic conditions.
