I like Peggy Noonan. The former Republican speechwriter for President Reagan is my kind of conservative … unaffected by the noise and the bombast that is typical of today’s political observers. In a recent piece in the Wall Street Journal, Noonan articulated something I’ve been thinking about for some time.
In writing about recent scandals … including the Secret Service and the G-S-A … Noonan shared this: “”I think more and more people are worried about the American character … who we are and what kind of adults we are raising”. On a Sunday talk show, Noonan pondered the lack of maturity among people in responsible positions … and others in our sports and entertainment culture. Where are the adults?
It seems to me there is an overall lack of maturity among many who’ve been given positions of authority. Do these people know right from wrong, good behavior from bad? Or does that even matter?
We’ve been hearing a lot about people who simply need to grow up!
Our thought for today is from Samuel Johnson:
“It is unjust to claim the privileges of age and retain the playthings of childhood.”
