The months of political campaigning … sometimes ugly … have come to an end with today’s midterm election. Some say this is a very important historic vote that could change the direction of our nation.
So, what are the top issues? Recently, Gallup surveyed registered voters with the question: “Which ONE of the following issues is MOST important to you when you think about your vote for Congress this year?”
43% said economic conditions … 23% healthcare … 18% the size and power of the federal government … 6% the situation in Afghanistan … and 5% illegal immigration.
Among Democrats it was 51% economic conditions, followed by 31% healthcare. Independents said 43% economic conditions, followed by 23% the size and power of the federal government. Republicans said 36% economic conditions, followed by 28% the size and power of the federal government.
Quite a contrast … with Republicans and Independents rating the size of government far more important to them than it is to Democrats. Not surprising to me.
Our thought for today is from George Bernard Shaw:
“A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul.”
