At Botanica’s “Tuesday on the Terrace” last week, Ted Woodward and I struck up a conversation with Christopher Spiegel from Tasmania. He works for the Australian Taxation Office. He and his companion – Elizabeth – are touring the U-S-A in a rented Chevrolet.
Chris and Elizabeth have visited several countries. They decided on the U-S this time because the weak dollar made the trip affordable. They went on the Web to find something to do in Wichita on a Tuesday evening and wound up with us at Botanica.
We chatted for a good half hour about weather, geography, and some of the places the couple has visited. You might say Ted and I did some one-on-one promotion of Wichita, Kansas, and the United States. But we didn’t need to “sell” Chris and Elizabeth; they had only nice things to say about Wichita and our entire nation.
What they like best about America? Americans! Chris and Elizabeth think we’re just about the friendliest, nicest people on the planet!
Our thought for today is from F. Scott Fitzgerald:
“America is a willingness of the heart.”
