WICHITA, Kan. - A shooting early Thursday seriously injured one person and investigators are asking for help in determining what happened.
Police Captain Doug Nolte says around 2:30 a.m. a 36 year old man and a woman were walking near 16th and Hillside when they heard shots being fired. One bullet struck the man in his chest.
The man was taken to a local hospital in serious condition. Nolte says the victim is now listed as stable and is expected to make a full recovery.
Captain Nolte says the couple told investigators they didn't see or hear anything suspicious right up to the time of the shooting. They reported that right after the shots were fired they saw a vehicle in the vicinity but were not sure if the shots were fired from the vehicle.
Nolte says neither the man or the woman were gang members. No motive for the shooting has been determined and police have no suspects.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or have knowledge about the crime to call 9-1-1. Or, you can call Crime Stoppers at 267-2111
