The new primary breadwinners

I confess that this one surprised me. A survey by Pew Research Center reveals that America’s working mothers are now the primary breadwinners in a record 40% of households with children … up from just 11% in 1960.
While most of those households are headed by single moms, a growing number are married mothers who bring in more income than their husbands. Today, women are more likely than men to hold bachelor’s degrees, and they make up nearly half - 47% - of the American workforce.
This is a dramatic example of the changing American labor picture. The only time my mother worked outside the home after marriage was at Beechcraft during World War Two. On the other hand, my wife has worked outside the home for most of our married life … with a few years off when our children were very young.
Here at Entercom/Wichita we have just about a 50/50 split when it comes to the gender of our employees.
Our thought for today is from J. G. Holland:
“God gives every bird its food, but he does not throw it into the nest.”
