State Senator Oletha Faust-Goudeau says she has never used her status as a senator to try to get out of a traffic ticket … and “No one is above the law”. But you may have seen the video in which the senator is dropping the names of her friends in high places, such as the police chief … and her apparent effort to use a commemorative coin to avoid a ticket.
My experience is that name-dropping doesn’t get you very far with Wichita cops. An officer once recognized my name after my son Scott was pulled over when he was in high school. The officer said he liked my work on the air, and he let Scott off with a warning. The next time he was pulled over, Scott said “My dad is Steve McIntosh, on the radio”. The cop said, “So what?” and wrote him up.
Police records show Oletha Faust-Goudeau has been pulled over nine times since 1999 … receiving 12 citations for offenses including speeding and running a stop sign.
It would appear Senator Faust-Goudeau is either an unskilled or unlucky driver.
Our thought for today is from Katherine Hepburn:
“If you obey all of the rules, you miss all of the fun.”
