Families USA has come out with state estimates of the number of deaths because of a lack of health insurance; Families USA says it based the data on numbers from the Institute of Medicine and The Urban Institute.
It says that in 2006, more than 15% of Kansans between the ages of 25 and 64 were uninsured, and it estimates that more than three working-age Kansans die every week because of a lack of health insurance. It also estimates that from 2000 to 2006, more than 1,000 working-age Kansans died because they did not have health insurance.
Families USA is a nonprofit nonpartisan national organization seeking high-quality affordable healthcare for all Americans.
