Romney's turnaround plan

Writing in U-S-A Today recently, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney mentioned past successes in “turning around failing enterprises”, and promised to do the same for the federal government if he’s elected president.
He writes about “clear and realistic goals”, such as bringing down spending as a share of the Gross Domestic Product, from last year’s 24.3% to 20% or below. He says he’ll do it by eliminating every government program that is not absolutely essential, including “ObamaCare” … returning federal programs to the states … and sharply improving the productivity and efficiency of the federal government itself.
My opinion is that Romney needs to pound on this theme above all others: that he is the man to rescue our ailing economy. He also wrote about “reforming” Medicare and Social Security … not to affect “current seniors or those near retirement”.
The experts tell us serious debt reduction will also take revenue increases, but Romney writes “tax cuts should be off the table”.
Our thought for today is from Hyman Rickover:
“Good ideas are not adopted automatically. They must be driven into practice with courageous patience.”
