Residents Concerned about Rape Reported near Eastview Park
WICHITA, Kan. - Residents of a northeast Wichita neighborhood are concerned about reports of a recent sexual assault in the area.
A community briefing by Wichita Police was held Wednesday night for residents in the area around Coleman Middle School west of 13th and Rock Road. The briefing was proposed after area residents began asking for more information on the sexual assault of a woman on a jogging path in the area south of the school near Eastview Park.
The incident took place last Friday at around 3:00 p.m. when a woman out jogging, was approached from behind by a man on a bicycle and knocked to the ground. Police said the man raped the woman at knife-point. At some point the woman broke free and ran for help. When police responded they found some of the victim's clothes, the attacker's knife and his bicycle.
Police are urging residents not to jog alone even in the daytime, since the attack happened in the middle of the afternoon. So far there is no suspect description and no arrest has been made. But police said they have been diligently working the case since it was reported.
