This week we honor the memory of Ronald Reagan, the 40th United States president. The 100th anniversary of his birth in small-town Illinois was February 6th.
Many Americans revere him as their greatest president. He stuck to his conservative principles of smaller government and lower taxes. Although, he didn’t always get his way, Reagan’s ideas have influenced an entire generation of conservatives.
I admire Reagan for his leadership skills and his ability to communicate a positive attitude about our nation. His training as a broadcaster and an actor served him well. I also believe he was a man of character and decency, who always tried to do the right thing. I think Ronald Reagan respected everyone.
I believe Ronald Reagan’s legacy is that we should never fear to articulate our political views, even though they might be unpopular with some. In public discourse, seek the higher ground … and simple decency and respect for all.
I also think Ronald Reagan would want us to retain our sense of humor.
Our thought for today is from Ronald Reagan:
“I have left orders to be awakened at any time in case of national emergency, even if I’m in a cabinet meeting.”
