At some point, the Kansas Star Casino will have its own ramp and toll booth on the Kansas Turnpike near Mulvane. Casino general manager Scott Cooper tells me everything is progressing nicely toward an opening in January of next year.
When the 260 million-dollar project is completed it will feature a 300-room hotel, 9 restaurants, and an event arena that will seat nearly 5,000.
The Kansas Star is already having an impact on the local economy. Cooper tells me more than 45 million dollars in contracts have already been awarded, 98% of them to Kansas subcontractors and vendors … mostly in the Wichita area. They’ll also need more than 500 workers on opening day. At last report, about 55-hundred people had applied for work at the Kansas Star web site.
So, we’re seeing good progress toward an opening that’s only months away. Construction workers are on the job, with hundreds of casino jobs on the way. Kansas Star is already shining on the local economy.
Our thought for today is from Mitch Hedberg.:
“I like to play blackjack. I’m not addicted to gambling, I’m addicted to sitting in a semi-circle.”
