LAWRENCE, Kan. - A new program in northeastern Kansas will help children and teens who are grieving the death of a friend or family member. The program in Douglas County was put together by Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, Midland Care and the Visiting Nurses. It's called Keepsake Place and will be offered for six weeks on Wednesday afternoons beginning October 10th. The funeral home's Linda Upstill says the death of a friend or loved one can leave children feeling lonely and isolated. They may have trouble expressing their feelings, young children may regress in their behavior. Children in the free program will be divided into age groups for guided discussions. The classes will include sharing photos and making mementos. Organizers hope to offer the program twice a year.
