Peter Falk R.I.P

I'm long overdue for a blog, and I suppose I've been stirred into action upon hearing about the death of actor Peter Falk.

Peter holds the distinction of being a castmember of two of my favorite comedy movies of all time: "The Great Race", and "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World". He's a real hoot in "Race", as Professor Fate's manservant/assistant, Max. And in "Mad World", he's one of the cabbies who gets to haul all those idiots around towards the end of the movie. Multiple Emmy winner, Golden Globe winner, multiple Oscar nominee: what a rich career.

Of course, he'll always be identified with his iconic role of "Columbo", but I think I remember Mr. Falk more for his movie work. I'm also reminded of Frank Capra's "Pocketful of Miracles" (for which  Falk got an Oscar nomination), the Rat Pack movie "Robin and the 7 Hoods", and imitating a Bogart-type character in another one of my favorite comedies, "Murder By Death". Other favorites of mine include: "The Cheap Detective", "The Princess Bride", and "Wings of Desire".

He was even in an off-Broadway production of "The Iceman Cometh" with Jason Robards. Can you see Peter Falk doing Eugene O'Neill? I can.

Sadly, he suffered from a pretty severe case of dementia and Alzheimer's disease during his final days.

Peter Falk, thank you for leaving us with a wonderful body of work; you will always make me laugh.
