An emailer responded to a recent McIntosh Report, saying I talk too much about “compromise” … and that our government always compromises in the direction of “socialism”.
I had shared the concerns of Wichita State University political science professor Ken Ciboski about a movement in Kansas politics to challenge incumbent Republican lawmakers for their perceived moderation … that they are not perceived conservative enough. Ciboski … a Republican himself … feels it is harmful in a democracy when one party or one philosophy seems to be the only one acceptable. He says we always need a loyal opposition and we always need new ideas.
My feeling: is “all conservative, all the time” a potentially harmful view?
As for no-compromise-ever: it doesn’t work anywhere in life or business, why should it work in government? Look at Washington. I rest my case.
