Man Convicted in Insurance Scheme Gets Probation

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) - A former Hutchinson insurance agent already convicted in several counties of bilking elderly residents has received probation in a case out of Rice County. However, a Rice County judge said Wednesday he would review the case against 66-year-old Ronald Hummel in 60 days to be sure Hummel is repaying his victim. Hummel already has been convicted in Cowley, Edwards, Ellsworth, Reno, Rice, Stafford and Sumner counties for selling insurance policies to elderly residents but not forwarding the payments to insurance companies. In Rice County, Hummel was convicted on Feb. 18 of a single count of felony theft by deception on Feb. 18. In exchange for his plea, Rice County prosecutors dropped two other counts
