Living in tornado alley

It’s been called “nature’s most violent storm”. Those of us who live in “tornado alley” can attest to that. We’ve seen the terrible twisters hit parts of Wichita, Haysville, Andover, Udall, Greensburg, Emporia …it’s a pretty long list.
Wichita dodged a huge bullet a week ago Sunday. That tornado was headed straight toward the city before it miraculously lifted. The folks in Oklahoma City were not so lucky the next day. It was the second time Moore has been hit by a big tornado since 1999.
The last couple of years we’ve seen big tornadoes in the southeastern United States. In fact, we’ve seen tornadoes in many unusual places … where folks are simply not accustomed to seeing twisters. We may know all about them in Kansas and Oklahoma, but it doesn’t make it any easier to deal with the big, ugly, deadly storms.
All we can do is make a plan and pay attention when the storm clouds appear. It’s not much, but it’s about all we’ve got when Nature decides to become violent.
Our thought for today is from Tennessee Williams:
“A vacuum  is a hell of a lot better than some of the stuff that nature replaces it with.”
