Kansas fans celebrate NCAA crown

Tens of thousands of Kansas fans jam
Massachusetts Street in downtown Lawrence last night to celebrate
the Jayhawks' NCAA championship.
A mass of blue-clad humanity emptied sports bars and Allen
Fieldhouse the instant the game ended with Kansas defeating Memphis
75-68 in overtime.
Minutes before, a somber mood fell upon Kansas basketball fans
everywhere as their Jayhawks were down by nine points with just
over 2 minutes left in regulation. But then came Mario Chalmers'
3-pointer, and the mood became one of unbridled joy.
Hours after the game, thousands of fans continued a celebration
that lasted well into the wee hours. University of Kansas officials
announced immediately after the game that classes had been canceled
for today.
Lawrence police reported only three arrests.
More than 250 police officers from seven jurisdictions stood by
to keep the peace.
