The United Way in Wichita has released information from its annual "Point In Time Count of Homeless Persons."
That count took place on Wednesday, January 30th, as 97 volunteers walked the streets of Wichita and other parts of Sedgwick County. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development requires a homeless count across the nation.
HUD defines a homeless person as someone who lives in an emergency shelter, transitional housing after the shelter, or anyone living in a cars, parks, sidewalks, abandoned buildings, or on the streets.
This year's count identified 473 homeless people in the Wichita area.
