GARDEN CITY, Kan. - High winds in Western Kansas have caused serious problems. Dust kicked up by the wind lead to near-blackout conditions on several highways leading to accidents Monday.
U.S. Highway 27 was shut down from Johnson City to Syracuse after multiple accidents were reported. U.S. Highway 83 from the U.S. 83/U.S. 83 Business junction south of Garden City to the junction of U.S. 83, U.S. 160 and K 144 in Haskell County was closed due to multiple accidents. I-70 from Goodland to the Colorado border as well as K-96 in Greeley County was shut down due to low visibility.
Authorities have reopened all affected roads and highways, but still urge caution for anyone driving in western Kansas with low visibility.
If they have cut down the tree belts that were planted because of the dust bowl back in the day, they can expect a lot more problems. Plant belts of trees people! If you want to be a secret organization with codes, DON'T ADVERTISE!!!!!!!
