Golf-Ball-Sized Hail Hits Wichita Area

Severe thunderstorms developed in south-central Kansas late Thursday night.

Golf-ball-sized hail was first reported breaking windows at Burns in Marion County; golf-ball-sized hail was also reported in east Wichita, and north-northwest of Park City.

During a 19-minute period, quarter-sized hail was reported in west Wichita, east Wichita, and Park City; quarter-sized hail was also reported in Sumner County.

Marble-sized hail was covering the ground at Potwin in Butler County.

Wind gusts of 60 miles per hour were reported at Benton in Butler County, and at 47th South & Oliver in south Wichita.

High water was reported at Central & Market in downtown Wichita, and water was over the roads northeast of Potwin.

Wichita's Mid-Continent Airport got more than two inches of rain in less than two hours, and Wellington received nearly one inch of rain in just 25 minutes.
