SELIGMAN, Ariz. - A Goddard teenager has been killed in an accident in Arizona. The crash happened just after 1:30 a.m. local time on Interstate 40 west of Flagstaff, Ariz.
Officials with the Arizona Department of Public Safety say Samantha Ewertz, 17, was riding in the back seat of a sport utility vehicle heading eastbound on I-40 when something caused the driver to lose control and roll the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim's mother who was driving the SUV, Jennifer Ewertz, 45, and sister, Lindsey Ewertz, 18, both suffered minor injuries. No other vehicles were involved.
The accident is under investigation. Officials say the group had traveled some distance down the highway and investigators are looking into the possibility that the driver fell asleep behind the wheel.
Samantha Ewertz would have been a junior in high school this year.
