Fire Station Groundbreaking

City of Wichita officials have scheduled a groundbreaking for Fire Station No. 21 at 1 p.m. Friday at the southeast corner of 21st Street North & 135th Street West.

Scheduled attendees include District V Councilman Jeff Longwell and Fire Chief Ronald D. Blackwell.

Estimated to cost $2.6 million, Fire Station No.21 is one of three new fire stations approved by the Wichita City Council during the 2007 budget process and expected to be completed between December 2008 and February 2009.

Features include individual living quarters, separate male and female locker rooms, and a community meeting room that seats up to 50 and serves as an operations center. Initial operations will include four personnel and an Engine.

The groundbreaking for Fire Station No. 20 is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Friday, April 18. It will be located
near Harry and Greenwich in Council Member Sue Schlapp’s District II.
