The Wichita sky will have a 1940s feel to it this weekend. The LIBERTY BELLE, a newly restored World War II B-17 Bomber, will be flying over Wichita, with 45-minute public flights on Saturday and Sunday. It's one of only 14 B-17s that still fly today.
The B-17 Flying Fortress saw action in every theater of operation during the second World War, and many of them flew missions from England deep into enemy territory.
There were more than 12,000 B-17s produced between 1935 and 1945, and more than 4,700 of those were lost in combat.
The LIBERTY BELLE flying over Wichita was built towards the end of the war, and never saw any combat.
