Astronaut to be honored by University of Oklahoma
|
The first black person to walk in space
will receive an award from the University of Oklahoma during a
visit to Norman this week.
Astronaut Bernard Harris Jr. will receive the Award of
Distinction from the university's College of Education during its
annual Celebration of Education on Friday night.
Other honorees include Oklahoma civil rights advocate Clara
Luper.
In 1995, Harris became the first black person to walk in space
during a mission aboard the space shuttle Discovery. He will
deliver the keynote speech.
