Man Killed Near Valley Center, Brother Arrested

SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan. - A man was shot and killed west of Valley Center, and the suspect is the dead man's brother.

Sedgwick County sheriff Jeff Easter says after 3:00 a.m. Sunday, a shooting was reported on 94th Street West, near Tyler Road & 82nd Street North. Deputies arrived, finding two people with gunshot wounds.

22-year-old James Rotramel was hospitalized in critical condition, and died at about 4:30 a.m.

Deputies have arrested his brother, 36-year-old Michael Phillips, booking him into jail for 1st-degree murder, aggravated battery, and two counts of aggravated assault. Investigators believe this was some sort of a domestic dispute between the two brothers.

The other shooting victim, 20-year-old Kristopher Hooper, survived.
