Job Incentives Dip for Hawker Beechcraft

WICHITA - The Wichita Business Journal reports that Wichita-based Hawker Beechcraft has a local work force of 3,372, falling short of the minimum employment level of 3,600 required for the company to get all of the $45 million in incentives it won in a 2010 agreement with state and local governments.
Falling short does not mean Hawker gets none of the incentive money, only that its 2013 payments will be reduced.
The payments are pro-rated based on the number of employees Hawker has below the formal floor of 4,000 workers in the incentive agreement. However, the company is allowed a 10% variance from the 4,000, giving it an effective floor of 3,600 employees before penalties kick in.
Hawker, which is about to emerge from bankruptcy as Beechcraft Corp., said in a news release announcing the work force totals that it is currently looking to fill more than 65 open positions in Wichita.
Chairman Bill Bositure said in news release that the company’s lower employment reflected steps it had taken to stabilize and position itself for growth and that it remains “committed to being successful in Wichita.”
